SurvivalOS Flasher

This browser has no Web Serial support. Open this page in Chrome or Edge on a computer (not Safari, not a phone).
Early build. It boots and runs on a real T-Display-P4, but it is work in progress and the newest changes may not have been tried on hardware yet. Flashing is reversible — see “Go back to the LILYGO factory firmware” below. Only for the T-Display-P4 V1.0 (ESP32-P4 revision 1.x).

Before you click

  1. Use the USB-C port on the side of the device, labelled P4.U. The other USB-C port only charges and cannot flash.
  2. Use a data cable (not charge-only). The device should be switched on.
  3. Close any other program that has the serial port open.
  4. Click Flash and pick the port named USB Single Serial / usbmodem… (WCH CH343).

If something goes wrong

The flasher cannot connect

Put the board into download mode by hand: hold BOOT, press and release RST, then release BOOT. The screen stays black. Click Flash again.

If the port is not in the picker at all, tick “Show every serial port”, try another cable, and make sure it is the P4.U port.

The screen stays black after flashing

This board can stay in download mode after a reset. Do a full power cycle: unplug USB, switch the battery off, wait five seconds, switch it on again and press the power/RST button.

A nearly empty battery also makes the firmware show a warning and switch off again — charge it for a while and retry.

Still black? Connect the serial monitor below, press RST, and read what it prints.

Wi-Fi does not switch on

Early T-Display-P4 units left the factory with a different firmware (ESP-AT) on their Wi-Fi chip, the ESP32-C6. SurvivalOS replaces it by itself, without a computer: open Settings → WLAN, switch WLAN on and tap Update now. It takes about a minute and is needed only once. Keep the phone switched on while it runs.

Should the phone ask for the BOOT button of the Wi-Fi chip, hold that button, tap Continue, and let go after a second.

Go back to the LILYGO factory firmware

Download the file ending in -merged.bin for t-display-p4-device-v1.0-esp32p4-rev1.0 from the LILYGO releases page, choose it here and flash it. It is checked the same way before anything is written.

Serial monitor

Shows what the device prints (115200 baud). Connecting restarts the device so the whole boot log is captured.

Serial monitor idle.
